FOR SUZANNE HUNT’S FILM “odin and the creation”
I practice a broad range of expressive and creative approaches in the creation of my moving image work.
A typical working day may consist of working expressive on traditional surfaces with paint or charcoal, to visualising characters using a graphics monitor and creative software such as photoshop.
I have a fine art sensibility, which I incorporate into my work in any way I can. I bring together 2D animation, stop-motion techniques, editing and experimental approaches within my work.
In my spare time I am passionate about art, I enjoy visiting galleries for inspiration and creating my own work, including expressive painting, sketching, digital art, and sculpting etc. I play the saxophone by ear. I am an avid music fan and enjoying going to see energetic live performances. I love traveling.
Laura is a talented and dedicated animation artist who has developed strong traditional drawn animation skills during her time on the degree programme. Her commitment to the hand made aesthetic and continuing investigation in to digital technology and processes is admirable. Laura strives for high quality results at all times.
Lynx Animation Studios
Laura came to our studio, Lynx Animation Studios, in the role of an intern. She is an enthusiast for the visual arts, full of interest and curiosity to the inner workings of the animation and illustration industry, and as such she passed our 2D animation and illustration course with ease and great competence.
Upon completion of the aforementioned course, in the capacity as a producer in the studio, I
assigned an animation project to Laura on which she worked with all the skill, due diligence, passion and
attention to detail of a much more experienced animator.
After seeing the final results of the project she worked on, I can recommend Laura without any
reservation to any position relevant to the fields of animation, illustration and the visual arts.
I met Laura Durrant in September 2013 in my capacity as Senior Lecturer in Animation at Staffordshire University. During her three years in our department Laura’s attendance and participation in the life of our studio has been excellent. She has demonstrated a keen desire to experiment with a variety of creative approaches. Her background in fine art is evident in her expressive approach to drawing, she has a flair for mark making, colour and character design. She is a self-starter, comfortable working on her own but also works brilliantly on group projects. She approaches all aspects of production with commitment, application and consideration. She is experienced in pre-production, production and postproduction. In her own animation she embraces experimentation, working intently to generate projects that are unique, challenging and entertaining.
Laura brings together traditional creative skills with an understanding of technical software such as Adobe Suite and Toon Boom.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Laura for collaborations and employment opportunities within the arts creative industries and wish her success for the future.
